Muro
Muro is one of the oldest towns in Mallorca
Muro consists of two towns:
Muro and Playa de Muro, on the coast of Alcúdias Bay. The city has a privileged location, in the middle of a well-irrigated and fertile plain, which is well protected from the strong north winds. The residents of the village of Muro once lived from agriculture, today a large part of the slightly more than 6,000 residents work in the construction industry and in the tourism sector. It is one of the oldest towns in Mallorca (it was recognized as a town by King Jaime II in 1300). Some historical monuments have been preserved to this day. The roots of the village go back to the Copper Age. Among the few excavations is the settlement of Ca na Cotxera (near Son Parera) from that time. Large talayotic villages such as Son Parera, individual talayots (watchtowers) such as the one in Sa Font de Son Morey and square talayots such as the one in Son Serra date from the Iron Age. The only scientifically known remains from Roman times are in a tomb in the area of Albufera (Son Sant Martí).

Playa de Muro
Playa de Muro is the largest sand beach on Mallorca and includes four sections that in total cover nearly six kilometres. Each of the four beaches that make-up Playa de Muro are white sand, some with sand dunes. Playa de Muro is a perfect beach for all ages groups and caters to tourists and locals alike. It is a very popular beach for families because of its easy access, restaurants, onsite facilities, kid focused activities such as dedicated play areas, and the exceptionally shallow waters in which you have to walk quite far before it gets deep. Playa de Muro is a very popular base for holiday destinations with all of the large hotels and rental apartments within walking distance to the beach.
Section 1 beach, known simply as Playa de Muro, is only about 3 kilometres from Port d'Alcudia beach. Because of its proximity, this is the perhaps the most popular beach on Playa de Muro, with a large number of hotels and restaurants, easy parking and other facilities directly backing up to the beach.
Section 2 is slightly less busy, but is still very easily accessible to all of the same facilities.
As you move into Sector 3, also known as Sa Comu, the beach is quieter, with facilities and access requiring more of a walk, though parking can be found at both ends of this 1.5 kilometre beach. This section is part of the S'Albufera Natural Park and sand dunes and pine trees surround this natural stretch of beach.
Finally, Sector 4, called Es Cappellans, starts to become more popular again with all restaurants, hotels and facilities right at the beach. This final sector is right near the popular resort of Can Picafort.
